The Pointed Venus is a fairly rare shell on S. Hutchinson Island beaches. It is small and resembles somewhat the Dwarf Surf Clam except one corner is pointed.


Three Pointed Venus shells (S. Hutchinson Island- December, 2020)

Shell size to 20 mm; shell wedge-shaped, with tapering posterior end. Surface glossy. Sculpture of low, rounded concentric riblets and very weak radial lines. Color grayish, greenish to brownish. Anomalocardia auberiana (d'Orbigny, 1853) is a synonym.
